Nevada artist Mitzi Alexander was presented the second place award for her sculpture, “Performance,” at the Iowa State Fair Fine Arts reception and award ceremony on Sunday afternoon. Alexander is shown here with the sculpture, which is one of two art pieces she has on display at the fair this year. The other is a fiber artwork named “There’s a Hair on My Plate.” Fair goers can view Alexander’s artwork along with more than 1,600 exemplary works of art and photography at Iowa’s largest art show, located at the Patty and Jim Cownie Cultural Center on the fairgrounds, during the 2016 Iowa State Fair, Aug. 11–21.
